COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Camden Dream Center’s team of teachers, researchers, and community activists create educational programs that not only engage our students, but also prepare them for college and the I.T. workforce. Our community education programs provide a variety of STEM and Literacy programs for students from K-8 and adults.
2024 Camden Dream CDF Freedom School
About: The 2024 Camden Dream Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School is an in-person 6-week summer program with literacy CDF integrated reading curriculum, STEM enrichment program, and includes Innovative Lit Lab. This well-rounded summer program focuses on developing a love for reading, avenues for exploring science, technology, engineering, math, and encourages positive attitudes toward learning.
Where: In-Person (Mastery High School, 800 Erie Street, Camden, NJ 08103)
When: Monday, July 1 to Friday, August 9, 2024 | Monday - Friday (Daily) from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

INNOVATIVE LITERACY (Lit) LAB
About: The Innovative Lit Lab leverages literacy and technology to address the reading challenge for K-8 students in the underserved communities of South Jersey. Specifically, using the Education Testing Services’ (ETS) reading app (Relay Reader) on a smartphone, Kindle Fire, Chrome Book, or a laptop to engage students in a joint reading aloud approach for reading storybooks. The reading proficiency of a student is tracked (data collected), analyzed, observations and findings developed in a weekly progress report for instructors to use in enhancing the students’ literacy progress. Offered as part of the Freedom School package.

GIRLS IN CAMDEN CODE
About: Girls in Camden Code provides targeted, coding, and technology project-based informal STEM learning for middle schoolers in the city of Camden and its vicinity. This program covers, Python Essentials, Design Essentials, and more.
Where: Virtual with occassional hybrid sessions
When: September 16, 2023 through June 15, 2024 (Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM)
STEM ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
About: Camden Dream Center is launching our in-person summer STEM Enrichment Program in partnership with Freedom Prep Charter school targeting 3rd to 8th graders. The goal is to improve the scholars’ proficiencies in the domains of STEM. The secondary goal is to support the realization of computer science knowledge transfer and computational thinking skills to the middle schoolers – prep for the digital way of life. Offered as part of the Freedom School package.
